| The basics of Texas Hold'em poker are pretty
easy to understand, but the strategy is not that easy, which is a good thing
because anybody would play the game profitable, if the strategy would be that
easy.
Because Texas Hold'em poker is not that easy, it is not possible for us to
write out everything we know about Texas Hold'em poker on this page, but we
can show you how you can learn more about the game of Texas Hold'em poker.
The way I learned the game, as well as many others, was to first join
PartyPoker and playing a couple days for fun money. Then, I
started reading a few great books on Texas Hold'em poker, and eventually
joining an online poker forum to discuss intersting hands that I was not sure
I played right. That way, I was able to see the hand from a different angle,
teaching me a lot about my own game. But, the most important thing was simply
playing and studying the game whenever possible!
But, first, read the following books to learn more about Texas Hold'em
strategy: "Winning Low Limit Holdem" by Lee Jones and "Small Stakes Hold'em: Winning Big with Expert Play" by Ed Miller, David Slansky and Mason Malmuth.
We recommend starting with "Winning Low Limit Holdem", and once you understand
the concepts discussed in that book, read "Small Stakes Hold'em." Once you
read these books, you should already have a better understanding about the
game, but it is advised to re-read these books every once in a while because
you will always be able to pick up some new concepts, and therefore improve
your own play!
Once you read the recommended books, we recommend playing tons of hands to
try to apply your newly gained knowledge. Another tool that might be useful to
you is PokerTracker, which is a statistics software
analyzing your game for you. That way, you can learn more about your own game,
including in which areas of your game, you still have problems.
As we have also stated above, join an online poker forum after reading our
poker books and playing a few hands to post questions you might have. That
way, you will get opinions from other poker players and learn more to improve
your own game.
Remember that it takes time to become a successful online poker player, but
it's very doable if you invest enough time into playing and studying Texas
Hold'em poker. |
